Animal massacre in Ukraine before EURO 2012

AnimalWATCH reports the shocking facts concerning the UEFA Football Euro 2012 in the Ukraine:
In “preparation” of the Football Euro 2012 the host cities of Kiev, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Lviv  have brutally killed (shot, poisoned or burned while still alive!!) more than100,000 dogs over the past year. Animal protection groups believe the number is far higher! Earlier this month the Kiev government announced the killings were to stop. However, Judith Pein, of the German branch of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) said it was still happening! “It’s a slaughterhouse,” said Asya Serpinska, head of the Ukrainian Association of Animal Protection Organizations.
The Ukraine does not have any programs on reducing the numbers of stray animals. There are no programs to educate people about neutering their pets and there are no municipal shelter for stray animals! All this leads to thousands of animals appearing at the streets and the absence of home pets breeding control entails increase of strays number! Activists in Donetsk and Kharkiv say stray dogs are also routinely killed by blowgun syringes loaded with Dithylinum, a substance banned in Ukraine and the West for animal euthanasia. It paralyzes the respiratory system, so the dog dies slowly of asphyxiation, suffering for up to an hour.
It’s capture and kill,” said John Ruane of Naturewatch, a British-based animal welfare group that monitors the situation in the Ukraine. “It’s just barbaric.!”
These actions violate the European Animal rights Convention and any adequate humans moral principles. Besides it contradicts democratic society’s principles and leaves a bloody stain on Ukraine’s reputation.
“Killing” in the name of sport does not correlate with the UEFA’s idea of “fair play”.
Sponsoring a sport event means supporting it!
We are calling on UEFA and all 12 official sponsors of the Football Euro 2012 in Ukraine to show engagement for animal protection in their entire volume of their financial possibilities as compensation of the mass killing of stray animals in the cities of Ukraine!
