Liverpool reignite interest in £15m winger Yarmolenko as Salah talks slow down

Liverpool are looking to reignite their interest in Dinamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko. The 24-year-old figured prominently for Ukraine against England in their World Cup qualifiers and is rated at £15m. Yarmolenko has scored eight goals in 16 appearances in the league for Kiev this season, and has 14 goals in 38 caps for Ukraine. Liverpool are continuing negotiations over Basle's Mohamed Salah but are weighing up alternatives as the Swiss drive up the price. Salah has been grabbing headlines with Swiss side Basle for the past 12 months and his performances in the Champions League against Chelsea, in particular, this season have made him one of the hottest properties of the January window.  

Ukraine International Airlines opens Salzburg and Sofia routes from Kiev

Ukraine International Airlines , the flag carrier and the largest airline from Ukraine, extended its European network with the launch of two new seasonal services from its Kiev Boryspil (KBP) base on 28 December. With the longest sector being the 1,333-kilometre service to Salzburg (SZG), and the shortest being the 1,012-kilometre route to Sofia (SOF) in Bulgaria, the carrier will face no direct competition on either of the two new routes. The services to the Bulgarian capital will be served twice-weekly (Mondays and Saturdays) until 15 January, utilising the carrier’s 105-seat 737-500s, while its second destination in Austria will be operated weekly (Saturdays) until 15 March, utilising a mixed fleet of 105-seat 737-500s and 180-seat 737-800s.

KIEV, January 8 (RIA Novosti) −  A fire broke out Wednesday at a plant Khartron  in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkov leaving at least eight people dead and seven injured. The fire, allegedly caused by unspecified safety rules violations, caught the five-story industrial building on the territory of the Khartron plant leased by a Kharkov jewelry factory Wednesday afternoon, the emergencies situation officials said. Some 200 people were working inside the building when the fire broke out. Six of the injured were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. Ukrainian prosecutors launched a criminal probe in connection with the incident.

Construction in Ukraine continues to fall

Despite number of building permission is tripled Ukraine’s construction industry is set to record a 16% decline year-on-year in 2013, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of negative performance, according to European research company PMR. This year's expected decrease follows a 8.3% drop in 2012. Between 2008 and 2013 the Ukrainian construction sector succeeded in expanding year on year in real terms only once - in 2011, when it posted double-digit growth. At its lowest point in 2009, the market saw a 40% decline year-on-year. The third quarter of 2013 was the fifth consecutive quarter of negative year-on-year performance in construction as the government and local administrations revised downward planned spending on many civil engineering projects. Between the first quarter and the third quarter of 2013, new construction and reconstruction accounted for 81.7% of total construction output, while maintenance was responsible for 7.5% of and overhaul activities for 10.8%.
