When Valentin Frechka was 19, he began working on a research project to turn fallen leaves into biodegradable paper. Three years later, the project advanced significantly, and it launched an initiative called Sheet Paper, producing paper bags and packaging from fallen leaf fiber.

Since then, he has become a partner of the cardboard company and founded a company in Zhytomyr to reduce the impact of paper production on the environment, writes BuildingTECH.

“The idea is simple. Items that are considered waste can be reused or recycled. Leaves are wastes that need to be removed from parks because they release a lot of carbon when they rot. This is an opportunity for the buyer to use environmentally friendly packaging, ”says Frechka.

Valentin wants his initiative to put an end to deforestation caused by paper production. He also notes that the waste of his products can be recycled and reused for various purposes.

The first batch of Re-leaf Paper was made exclusively from leaves collected in parks in Kyiv and Zhytomyr, both places where the leaves were simply thrown away because they did not even serve as compost for the soil.

This batch was completed in October 2020, and now Valentin plans to begin mass production. It is open to any offers from companies from around the world - anyone who wants to join the new environmental papermaking methodology.
