Motor Sich signs agreement to supply 14 engines for Turkish combat helicopters

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) has signed an agreement with the Ukrainian aircraft engine company Motor Sich to supply 14 engines for a Turkish heavy combat helicopter.

According to Defense World, the first two engines will be delivered to TUSAS in September 2022. In general, deliveries of a certain batch will be completed in 2025.

"As we promised, we have completed another important and critical phase for our heavy helicopter, which will fly in 2023. We launched a project that was launched under the leadership of the President of the Defense Industry in 2019, with a new contract in 2 years. We hope that, as TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries), we will take this ambitious step by 2023 in the 100th year of our Republic, ”said TUSA директор CEO, Professor Dr. Temel Kotil.

The first flight of a Turkish heavy combat helicopter is scheduled for 2023. It will have about twice the takeoff weight of an ATTACK helicopter.

It will be recalled that the participation of the Ukrainian aircraft engine company in the creation of a Turkish heavy combat helicopter became known for the first time in March this year. Then the CEO of Turkish Aerospace Industries Temel Kotil said that the new Turkish helicopter will receive Ukrainian-made engines.

Heavy combat helicopter is designed in the same class with the American AN-64 Apache and Russian Mi-28. The contract for its creation was signed on February 22, 2019.

The developers use the experience gained during the design and operation of the T129 ATAK helicopter, which was developed on the basis of the Italian A129 Mangusta helicopter.

The takeoff weight of the new helicopter will be more than 10 tons, payload weight - 1200 kg. Practical flight ceiling - 6 km, speed - 315 km / h.

The helicopter will be equipped with 30-mm or 20-mm guns, guided air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, as well as unguided missile and bomb weapons.
