Olga Sopit won the first gold medal in the history of Ukraine at the European Fencing Championship in women's foil.

In the final, the 23-year-old from Kyiv defeated the Olympic champion, 10-time world champion and 15-time European champion Italian Arianna Errigo (15:8). 

For Sopit, this is the first medal at major international tournaments. 

▪️This is Ukraine's second award at this year's championship after Alina Komashchuk's bronze medal.
