Ukraine has legalized the production and sale of medical cannabis
The Cabinet of Ministers has passed a resolution according to which some cannabis-based drugs are no longer included in the list of drugs.
On April 7, the relevant resolution, which mentioned 2 cannabis-based drugs, was published on the government portal.
"The circulation of psychotropic substances nabilone and nabiximols is allowed only in the form of drugs or in the form of substances intended for the production and manufacture of such drugs," the document reads.
Nabilone is used to treat the side effects of cancer chemotherapy, and nabiximols is used to relieve muscle spasms in multiple sclerosis.
The list does not include the drug for epilepsy epidemiolex, which is needed by 18 thousand children in Ukraine.
Medical cannabis is a drug that has analgesic, relaxing and anticonvulsant effects. The number of patients in Ukraine who need drugs based on medical cannabis is 2 million.
Last year, people's deputies publicly announced that a bill to legalize medical cannabis is not needed. To do this, a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, which transfers cannabis from the list of banned substances to the list of controlled substances, is enough.
