Ukrainian sumo wrestler Danylo Yavhusyshyn won the Emperor's Cup in Japan for the third time.
The 22-year-old Vinnytsia native, who performs under the name Aonishiki Arata, won the championship title during the Nagoya Basho tournament.
Yavhusyshyn was congratulated by the command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine:
"Sumo and special operations seem like distant worlds. But they have one philosophy, one essence - will, discipline and readiness to fight to the last when circumstances are against you. The spirit of a warrior is the same everywhere: in the dojo, in the ring, on the battlefield."
▪️Danylo Yavhusyshyn moved with his family from Ukraine to Germany after the start of the full-scale invasion. In 2022, he went to Japan at the invitation of the captain of the Kansai University sumo club, Arata Yamanaki.
