Kiev Airport is planning to expand the runway

Kiev International Airport. Igor Sikorsky intends to extend the runway and improve the characteristics of approach systems.

This was reported by the head of the board of directors of the airport Denis Kostrzhevsky.

    Kyiv Airport has a runway length of 2,350 thousand meters. It is located in the central part of the city. Accordingly, its approach systems allow aircraft to take off and take off under certain weather conditions. In order to be able to service aircraft in all weather conditions and to service larger aircraft at Kyiv Airport, it is necessary to upgrade the airfield category, ”he said in an interview.

Kostrzhevsky noted that a master plan for the reconstruction of the “Kiev” airfield has already been developed, which has five different options. Each of them implies the extension of the runway by 550 m, improving the characteristics of approach systems (light signaling, radio navigation, radio control). The estimated cost of these works ranges from EUR80 million to EUR100 million.

    “The city has two problems to solve. The first is the allocation of land, the second - either the allocation or the attraction of money. You can raise money in different ways: you can take out a loan, you can declare a tender for concession. If the city decides to award the concession, then of course, Master-Avia - the airport operating company - will participate in this competition, "- said the top manager.

If no such decision is made, loans may be allocated, he added.

    “Maybe it will be financing from the city budget or it will be leased out with an investment commitment. We do not know this, ”- said the head of the board of directors of the Kyiv airport.

According to him, in particular, the airport asks to allocate 12 hectares of land at the ends of the runway. Currently, the documents are under negotiation.

    “We are in dialogue with the authorities. How quickly the agreement will take depends on the KSCA and Kyiv city council. They have been there for eight months. I hope that in the near future we will get some result, ”Kostrzhevsky said.
