ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plans to purchase 1,200 freight cars

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is considering the possibility of putting 1,200 new cars into circulation in 2021-2022. At the same time, the company's own car fleet will increase one and a half times, which will allow to deliver products to customers faster, and to provide the plant with raw materials in a timely manner with reference to CTS.

“Several factors are pushing us to decide on a large purchase of new cars. We are currently increasing the shipment of our products for export. At the same time, we are not completely satisfied with the technical condition of the car base in Ukraine, ”said Bikram Wird, Deputy General Director for Supply at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.

At the same time, the company notes that the renewed car fleet will ensure safe and efficient transportation of the plant's products to Ukrainian ports.

“We will be able to plan our logistics regardless of the situation on the railway market and the availability of cars. This will help reduce the cost of delivering outgoing and incoming goods. In addition, own cars are cheaper - the approximate payback period is 3-4 years, "- added Wird.

According to the company, the initiatives to write off gondola cars in excess of the standard service life, presented to the government, could lead to a shortage in the market and a large jump in transportation prices.

"Also, some manifestation of the shortage of cars can traditionally be expected in the summer-autumn period due to the revival of the construction market. Therefore, we would like to count on our own modern cars and be more flexible in working with Ukrzaliznytsia and freight operators, ”concluded ArcelorMittal Deputy General Director for Supply Kryvyi Rih.

The rolling stock of the enterprise is intended for export of metal products and iron ore raw materials, and also for deliveries to the enterprise of raw materials. The main logistical measures are the transportation of agglomeration ore and metal products, as well as the return of raw materials - limestone, coal, coke, coke. In addition to gondola cars, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih also uses dump trucks, platforms, tanks, cotton trucks, coke trucks and cement trucks in its transportation.
