"Island" boats for the Ukrainian Navy are heading to Odessa


Two patrol boats of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Slavyansk” and “Starobilsk” of the Island type are already heading to Odessa.

In the first half of October, they were loaded onto a cargo ship in Baltimore, which is now shipping them to Odessa. Arrivals are expected in October 20, ie next week they will be in Ukraine.

Delivery is thus the most economically feasible and is not the first time practiced. Island-type boats were delivered to Georgia and Pakistan in the same way (video uploads):

On the eve of the Ukrainian crews of patrol boats "Slavyansk" and "Starobilsk" completed 10-week training in the United States.

Preparation began on July 8, 2019, at the US Coast Guard's Baltimore Training Center, located in the city of the same name.

Катери IslandBoat crews underwent intensive language training in Odessa before studying in the United States. Also, in Ukraine there were complex training with practical training of actions on simulators of the Training center of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The transfer of two boats from the US Coast Guard to the Ukrainian Navy took place in the presence of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on September 27, 2018.

Former USCGC Cushing (WPB-1321) and USCGC Drummond (WPB-1323) boats were built at Bollinger Shipyard in Louisiana, both of which were incorporated into the US Coast Guard in 1988.

With the arrival of the Slavyansk and Starobilsk Island patrol boats, which are now heading to Odessa, they are expected to be unloaded and rescued after transportation. Subsequently, in November, the official ceremony of enlisting boats to the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will take place.
