The correspondent of AUTO-Consulting has more than once visited the Bogdan car plant in Cherkasy, which, by the way, turns 10 this year. A new large-scale direction for Bogdan Motors was the production of SUVs for the army. They are available in two versions: sanitary Bogdan 2251 and commander Bogdan 2351. They have different purposes, design and requirements from the Armed Forces, but, in fact, they are made on the same chassis of the Chinese pickup Great Wall Wingle 5, well known in our country . The only fundamental difference is that the sanitary Bogdan-2251 is made on the basis of the GW Cargo chassis with a single-row cab, and the commander's Bogdan-2351 comes from the original GW Wingle pickup with a two-row cab.

Why "Chinese"?
The basis for the creation of Bogdan 2251 and Bogdan 2351 was an all-wheel drive pickup Great Wall Wingle 5, which in turn is a licensed production of the Japanese pickup Isuzu Rodeo. The design is simple, quite reliable and time-tested. Including in the Ukrainian market, where the "civilian" Wingle 5 has been sold for many years. Contrary to stereotypes, this Chinese pickup turned out to be quite reliable. And given its low cost, it was decided to make an army car on its base.

Before launching the project, Bogdan Motors studied various options and negotiated with many manufacturers. Ukraine does not have its own chassis for such equipment. European military models are very expensive and their supply to Ukraine had to be coordinated for a long time. The Kia KM450 Military army pickup truck, which is in service with the South Korean army, was considered as an alternative. The KIA variant was initially adapted for military tasks and it was easier to adapt to the standards of the Armed Forces, in addition, it has a greater margin of safety. But for all its advantages, the KIA KM450 was also quite expensive. It became clear that at this stage the Armed Forces cannot afford equipment at such a price. Thus, the Chinese version of the Great Wall Wingle chassis with a single- or double-row cab was taken as a basis. Moreover, such a model is quite successfully used for similar purposes in other European countries, such as border guards. Based on the results of these tests and the wishes of the recommendations of the Armed Forces, a number of improvements to the design of the SUV were carried out.

Bohdan SUVs have been modified for the needs of the Armed Forces by the plant's designers. First of all, given the problems with the quality of the diesel on the front, they made changes to the design of the fuel system, in particular the filter and added a fuel heater. The complexity of the work to transform the civilian Great Wall into an army Bogdan is quite high. Yes, one car leaves the assembly line for a shift at the factory. But this has its advantages. Quality control

In Cherkasy, they were surprised by the negative reactions spread by the media about the allegedly defective sanitary Bogdan. At least, the fault of the plant is definitely not, and the reason was in the diluted fuel and ignoring the basic rules of operation of the car. As proof, we are shown 5-level quality control.

It begins at the stage of arrival of the chassis. The next stage - includes production control, there are also internal factory tests and a separate military acceptance. But Bohdan Motors is not inclined to transfer everything only to the military and is ready to promptly finalize, if necessary, implement and implement recommendations and eliminate the remarks of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. In addition, no matter how simple the equipment (and Bogdan-2351 is very simple in design), it is also necessary to train drivers and provide quality service. Therefore in "Bogdan Motors" together with transfer of equipment at the disposal of the customer provide the operation manual, and also the list of the recommended service stations. On them it is possible to service and repair equipment. Now the company plans to train drivers and mechanics. A set of such methodologies is currently being developed.

Is Bogdan better than UAZ?

It is obvious that it is high time to change obsolete UAZ-469 in the Armed Forces. Yes, by and large, few UAZs are already on the move. Their only advantage is that they can be repaired in any garage. But how many can repair them and buy spare parts in the same Russia?
