Pavlograd Chemical Plant has mastered the production of Typhoon rockets

Pavlograd Chemical Plant is mastering the production of new domestic 122-mm Typhoon rockets from all-Ukrainian components.

with reference to Defense Express.

The 122-mm Typhoon-1 caliber rocket projectile was developed by scientists and engineers at the Pivdenne State Design Bureau as part of the Ukrainian missile program.

"This is a new development - a Ukrainian missile that is an alternative and replacement for the old" Hail "systems," said Oleksiy Kyrychenko, chief technologist of the NGO "PHZ".

Unlike the old Soviet 9M22 shells (and other modifications), which were never produced at the enterprises of Ukraine (or the USSR), the new RS 9M221F "Typhoon-1" will be completely manufactured at domestic plants.

"Starting from the body element and ending with rubber products, which are now installed there and the fuel used for refueling, it is already done entirely on domestic components," - said Alexei Kirichenko.

It will be recalled that the Ukrainian version of the 122 mm jet projectile has twice the maximum firing range of the old Soviet RS (40 km vs. 20 km with a similar high-explosive fragmentation warhead of 18.4 kg), which is still in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The development of CB "Southern" will not only replace the old ammunition for MLRS BM-21 "Hail", but also be used in more modern systems, already domestic development - BM-21UM "Brest" and MLRS "Willow".

In addition, on the basis of RS "Typhoon" Dnieper specialists are developing a controlled version of the ammunition - "Typhoon-1M". Such shells will allow to strike much more accurate blows at individual targets and enemy positions, using only a few MS to hit instead of releasing a complete package with a large scatter.

The first tests of a new product from Pivdenne Design Bureau took place last year. Then the possibility of launching rockets at a minimum range (5 km) was tested.

In October 2019, the Typhoon model was presented to the public for the first time in Kyiv at the International Exhibition "Weapons and Security-2019".

In turn, in April of this year, as part of large-scale missile tests, launches RS 9M221F "Typhoon-1" for a maximum distance of 40 km. The tests were held at the Alibey State Test Site in Odesa Oblast.
