They write that Starbucks opens in Ukraine - there is no evidence for this
On June 30, Ukrainian media received a newsletter that the Starbucks network will open three coffee shops in Kiev on July 20. Some media have published the news, but there are questions about its presentation and content. We tell what exactly causes suspicions in her.
AIN.UA editors sent a request to Starbucks. The company told us that there are no plans to open in Ukraine.
Company Information
On official Starbucks resources, there is no mention of launching locations in Ukraine anywhere. The editors of AIN.UA sent a request to the press office of the company in the EMEA region, but did not receive a comment. To the question of the editor about whether the company has a registered legal entity, the person who introduced himself as a representative of the Starbucks press office in Ukraine did not answer.
In state registers there is no legal entity recently registered with a similar name. The Starbucks.ua domain has been occupied since 2006, but since now whois does not disclose information about the registrant, to whom it belongs is unknown.
The speaker referenced by the release is Samuel Baum, allegedly director of company development in new markets. There is no Starbucks specialist with this name on LinkedIn or other resources. But his name coincides with the name of the scriptwriter of the famous psychology series "Lie to Me."
Coffee Shop Address
The person who carried out the newsletter informed the AIN.UA editorial office that the coffee houses are undergoing repairs. And that one of them is located at ul. Antonovich, 52-54, near the metro station "Olympic". In the building on 54 Antonovich, is located the conference hall "Depot", and the address st. Antonovich, 52-54, indicate the foundation pit, with a lake with ducks.
Press Office Data
Newsletter came from personal gmail-mail. Usually in such cases (when a large international brand enters the market), the newsletter is sent either from corporate mail or from the mail of a communication agency that has received a contract to promote the brand in the country. In this case, the editors of AIN.UA refused to name the agency, citing the fact that "this needs to be clarified with the client."
A search by the phone number provided on the newsletter made it possible to find a photo of an alleged Starbucks spokesperson. This is a cropped avatar stock photo:
At the moment, there is no confirmation of the fact that the statement on the opening of Starbucks in Ukraine is true.
