Radchuk added that "a draft terms of reference will be formed in the near future and after that the command of the national Navy expects that the process of practical implementation of modernization measures will begin."

The head of the shipbuilding department said that "the boats are expected to install artillery systems in service with the Ukrainian Navy."

"We plan to equip them with modern equipment for target detection and targeting for the use of weapons. In addition, we will install a passive protection system and other important ship systems, "he said.

SET-72 torpedoes were developed and refined by the Cleaver NGO, which now includes an adviser to the former commander of the Ukrainian Navy, known for refusing to supply Island to Ukraine in 2014.

According to preliminary information from the Dumska publication, the installation of one such system on a boat will cost more than 100 million hryvnias.

However, it is already included in the state defense order for 2021.

The officer of the Ukrainian Navy also said that the three new "Islands", which are expected to arrive next year, will be equipped with American weapons systems.

"American contractors have been identified to provide these boats with additional weapons, equipment and technical means. There is a high probability that the boats will arrive in Ukraine with combat modules and American-made ship systems installed on board, "he said.
