Containers with concrete ingredients were sent to Antarctica for the Ukrainian polar station

On Friday, November 6, two containers with materials for construction work at the Ukrainian Antarctic station "Academician Vernadsky" were shipped from the port of Odessa.

This was reported by CTS with reference to the information of the industrial and construction group "Kowalska", which sent to Antarctica containers with 40 tons of concrete mix ingredients (sand, gravel, cement, special chemical additives). Transmitted by the National Industrial Portal.

A concrete mixture will be created from the concrete mixture at the Ukrainian polar station, which will have to withstand Antarctic climatic conditions.

It is specified that the containers should be delivered to the port of Punta Arenas (Chile) in early 2021, and then will be sent to the station "Academic Vernadsky".

It will be recalled that the station is located on Galindez Island near the Antarctic Peninsula.

In November last year, it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers had allocated UAH 252 million for the purchase of a scientific ocean-going ice-class vessel for Antarctic research.

Later, due to problems with the implementation of the state budget, the Budget Committee did not approve the purchase of an icebreaker for the Ukrainian Antarctic station, the purchase of which was scheduled for 2020.
