New road signs will appear in Ukraine
Ukravtodor is working on a project of a new route navigation on the roads of Ukraine.

The essence of the project is to install new road signs after the reconstruction of roads. This will help drivers better navigate the terrain and better plan routes.
“Currently, there is no unified navigation system in Ukraine. Therefore, road signs usually do not perform their main function - to help drivers when traveling. Designers often make signs at their own discretion, and direct customers (road services) do not have a tool to check the quality of their development. Different sign formats, different colors, fonts and sizes of road signs are a big problem, ”the statement reads.
In this regard, Ukravtodor decided to launch a project to improve road navigation in Ukraine.
“We often forget what road signs are for. This is information for route planning, warnings of possible road accidents and action bans. The safety of road users depends on their quality and functionality. Our common goal is to make orienteering as comfortable and accessible as possible during the trip. Especially when decisions need to be made quickly, ”Ukravtodor head Oleksandr Kubrak stressed.

It is noted that the experimental signs have already been installed in the Lviv region. Ukravtodor plans to introduce new navigation on the route Kyiv - Dnipro (H-31), Severodonetsk - Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint, Kyiv - Znamyanka (H-01) and many other routes.
The first to be selected was the section of the H-01 highway from Horodyshche to Smila, where repair work is currently underway and signs can be installed quickly.

“To build such a large system as car navigation, it is necessary to define the principles that help to organize all decisions: the signs are in the places where the driver is waiting to see them, and meet the needs that arise. Signs and principles should be typical and similar along the way. The use of signs should be convenient. The road should provide more information than necessary and remind of the rules, ”Ukravtodor added.

According to the state agency, typical sections of the road and the needs of drivers in these sections will be allocated - so that in the same situations the driver is helped by the same set of signs.
“According to the survey, many drivers focus on the number of tracks, the practice of color coding of different tracks is not new. But we propose to apply the color according to the priorities of the roads: E-40 European route - green; M-03 international road - red; H-01 national - red; R-16 regional - without color T14-02 territorial - without color ", - explain in" Ukravtodor ".
In addition, it is proposed to remove the hyphens in the road numbers and make them close to European corridors, and the route number itself should be highlighted by a white frame around the number.

It will also be proposed to separate urban and suburban navigation.
“Urban navigation (on a white background) and suburban (on a blue background) should be divided into different media to share the context. We propose to use a sign with a truncated edge for congresses at intersections, it enhances the perception of the direction to the side, ”the state agency added.
