Tomorrow, Ukraine will celebrate 35 years of restoration of independence
These years have clearly shown: independence must be preserved and defended, which Ukrainians continue to do every day.
The support of our friends and partners is extremely important in this struggle. It was so 35 years ago - and it is so today.
On August 24, 1991, Ukraine declared independence. And within a year, it was recognized by 123 countries of the world.
The recognition of Ukraine's independence was a complex historical process, preceded by negotiations, advocacy and important diplomatic work.
🤝 The first five countries to recognize Ukraine's independence were Poland, Canada, Hungary, Lithuania and Latvia.
Officially, this happened in the first days after the announcement of the results of the All-Ukrainian referendum on December 1, 1991. The history of the process of international recognition of our country can be seen today in the documents of Ukrainian diplomacy.
📃 The Diplomatic e-Archive contains, in particular, the “List of States that Recognized Ukraine and Established Diplomatic Relations with It as of September 1, 1992”, as well as other important documents on the history of Ukraine’s international relations: https://bit.ly/4xgr5Tb
35 years of independence are 35 years of our history, our diplomacy, and the development of our partnerships that make us stronger.
