How to delete a Telegram account - instructions

Export your data

If the user wants to download their data from Telegram before deleting, you need:

    Go to "Settings" (icon in the upper left corner of the application, three horizontal lines).
    In the settings, select the Advanced option (available only in the desktop version of Telegram). In it, find the item "Export Telegram Data".
    Then select the type of data you need (contacts, chat content, etc.) and download it.

Account deleting

There are two ways to delete your account.

Telegram itself deactivates the user account if he has not entered it for a long time. By default, this period is set for six months, but it can be changed in the settings.

For this you need:

    Go to the settings, by the icon in the upper left corner, and then select the "Privacy and security" tab.
    Go to the item "Delete my account" and select the period in it.

    Set the period to the minimum value - one month and do not enter the application at this time. After a month, Telegram will delete the account.

If the user does not want to wait a month, there is a faster way. For this:

    You need to go to the official Telegram service to delete your account and log in there using the phone number that is associated with the account. Telegram will send the confirmation code not in SMS, but in its own application.
    After authorization, a list of actions will appear, including deleting an account:

    The service will offer to indicate the reason why the user wants to delete the account. Also, the user will be warned that all messages and contacts will be deleted permanently. But the groups and channels that the user created will remain online. If the user was the only admin there, Telegram will assign a randomly selected active participant to this position.
    Then you need to click the "Delete my account" button and once again confirm your decision.
    After that, it will be impossible to create a new Telegram account from the same number for several more days.
    Telegram claims to erase all user data after deleting his account. For example, if a user after some time registers a new account from the same number, old messages, chats and groups will not be available to him.
