Ukraine will build a storage facility for radioactive waste, which is returned after processing in Russia


The State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management has approved a project to build a storage facility for high-level radioactive waste that will be returned from the Russian Federation.

It is noted that DAZV has approved a project to build a storage facility for intermediate storage of high-level waste, which will return from the Russian Federation after the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

    "The Ukrainian side must store high-level radioactive waste returned from the Russian Federation after the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, in accordance with the agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation on scientific and technical cooperation in nuclear energy of January 14, 1993." it is said in the message.

We will add that according to the general plan the storage will be built on a complex of productions "Vector".

    "It will guarantee radiation safety and reliable intermediate storage of high-level radioactive waste for the entire period of its operation for up to 100 years," informs DAZV.
