Monument to cosmonaut Kadenyuk unveiled in Kyiv (photo)
A monument to the first cosmonaut of independent Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine Leonid Kadenyuk, was unveiled at the Baykovo Cemetery in Kyiv.

The monument was unveiled on December 5, the 23rd anniversary of Leonid Kadenyuk's return to space on the Columbia shuttle. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi took part in the unveiling of the monument.
The monument in memory of the first cosmonaut of independent Ukraine was created by sculptor Anatoliy Haidamaka.
The press service of the OP noted that Zelensky initiated the acceleration of the creation of a monument to the first Ukrainian cosmonaut, who died in January 2018.
“As it could take years to carry out the work at public expense through bureaucratic procedures, a charity fund was opened, to which anyone could join. The sketch of the monument was chosen by the astronaut's family, ”the press service of the President's Office notes.
"Leonid Kadenyuk has done a lot for Ukraine, and Ukraine must do something for him. I believe that we did everything in time, because on January 28, Leonid Kadenyuk would have turned 70, and people will have a place to come and honor his memory, "said the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky also noted that since Kadenyuk's flight into space, Ukraine has not had such major breakthroughs in the aerospace industry, and Ukraine must do everything to restore this industry.

After laying flowers at the monument, the president talked to Kadenyuk's family. In particular, he promised the wife of cosmonaut Vira Kadenyuk to help resolve the issue of increasing financial support for his family from the state.
