Zacarpathia has set a record for road repairs

A media event was held in Uzhhorod, the main topic of which was the implementation of the program "Large Construction" in the Transcarpathian region. In 2020, 67 facilities were repaired throughout the region.

During the media meeting, they talked about one of the most important areas - road construction and restoration and construction of bridges.

The Zakarpattia region has become a leader in the construction of road infrastructure - almost 300 kilometers of roads have been repaired, work has been completed and traffic on the bridge in the village of Bushtyno, which has had the status of "long-term construction" since 2008. And also spent a record amount of money - almost 5 billion hryvnia. Yevhen Petroschuk, First Deputy Head of the Highways Service in the Zakarpattia Region, spoke about this in more detail.

"This year, 271 kilometers of roads in the upper layer were repaired, which is an absolute record, as well as 80 kilometers in the lower layer. For the last ten years in general, if you add everything that was done during that period, it turns out less than this year, - said Eugene Petroschuk. - This year, the H09 road was built from large facilities, which connects Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions: 135 km in the upper layer, next year it is planned to complete 20 km. We have one big engineering project - a bridge in Bushtyno. Its history is very old: construction began in 2006, then suspended. In 2020, the bridge was built and opened. "

Yevhen Petroschuk gave some more interesting facts about the road infrastructure of Zakarpattia. In particular, the longest retaining wall of Ukraine is located on the H09 road - about 2 km. Road T 0718 is the most picturesque road, from which 44.6 km were repaired.

“More than 50% of this road passes at an altitude of more than 500 m above sea level. It connects Pylypets, Volovets Pass, passes to Mizhhirya and Synevyr, "Yevhen Petroschuk added.

30 km of the P21 Dolyna-Khust road have been laid this year and are planned to be completed soon. Another important direction is the road H13 Lviv - Sambir - Uzhhorod, which will be completed in full in the first half of 2021. Next year, the Transcarpathian Highways Service plans, according to the first deputy head, to restore the M06 Kyiv-Chop highway, in particular, the roads near Bila Tserkva, Dyida and Storozhnytsia, which lead to the borders with the three countries. The Service will take over two more bridges: in Vyshkovo and Teresva.

Yevhen Petroschuk also explained who will operate the roads in the future: contracts have been signed with three private organizations for the next three years. The Service promises to monitor the work and also encourages the public to do so.

Oleksandra Azarkhina, Director of the Reform Office at the State Agency of Motor Roads of Ukraine, joined the online press conference and spoke about how infrastructure is being updated in Ukraine and about ambitious road projects.

According to her, Transcarpathia has 100% fulfilled the plan of the Great Construction for the construction of schools and kindergartens, 88% of the construction of sports facilities, 90% of the plan for the construction of roads. "We have ambitious plans for Transcarpathia - to build 370 km of roads, and in Luhansk region - 320 km. Ukraine has agreed with international importers to attract about 100 million euros to upgrade roads as part of the reintegration of Donbass, so we are physically connecting certain regions to the continent, "said Alexander Azarkhin. She also talked about two basic reforms related to infrastructure upgrades. These are the renewal and management of the road network, as well as regional development and public administration in the road sector.

Oleksandra Azarkhina focused on projects that would be interesting for Transcarpathia and started in other regions of Ukraine.

“We are implementing the first project in cooperation with the State Agency for Tourism Development. A new ski complex is planned to be built in Slavsk (Lviv region). The community has started lobbying for the launch of InterCity, and the year will be a great result. We plan to do a similar thing in Transcarpathia, there is work to be done, but we need to get involved, - says Oleksandra Azarkhina. - Another project - "Green Kilometer", which consists in the fact that we invite the private sector, initiative groups to take care of (additional maintenance) of the road: to clean garbage, plant flowers and more. By analogy with the American project. "

Speakers also answered the question of whether it is worth spending money on roads during the crisis, what is the effect of the Great Construction? Oleksandra Azarkhina cited data from the Ukraine Economic Outlook, according to which Ukraine's GDP in 2020 would have fallen by 9% if not for the Big Construction. Also, for the first time before the auctions for the purchase of services, public and private expertise was conducted, thanks to which it was possible to save over UAH 11 billion on road construction, Zakarpattia was told online in the Uzhhorod Press Club.
